Colors and Emotions

31DDAF5E-E994-4561-A2BC-38749ED11926Recently, I began to study colors and the emotions that correspond to each one. I was somewhat surprised in that my dominant color and my accent color say so much about me. For example, my accent color is all the orange hues. I am drawn to that color. I also, at times, lack courage and confidence… hmmm.. just being real! My dominant colors are blue/ navy….Tranquility and security make me feel safe and taken care of. Which also fits so well with my enneagram type-7. I mean..🤓

As we decorate our homes and choose colors it is so important that we choose what we love, what appeals to us. What makes someone else happy, may not have the same affect on you! 🙂 BE YOU!

Taking it one step further I thought about hospitality. I love opening up my home. My Mom modeled it for me and my sister as far back as I can remember. She did it all with such ease and grace. She could put a meal together in no time flat and somehow pull off a great night, most often on a moments notice.  Our homes do not have to be perfect for us to be hospitable. We just need to be willing!! Something special happens around the table, something that touches the heart.

Adding the elements of color to brighten and enhance your space is just another way to love on your guest. Color speaks.. at least thats what I have been learning.

Art is an extension of you. Buy what you love.. something that speaks to your heart. Bonus- ART DOES NOT NEED TO PERFECTLY MATCH YOUR SPACE!  It enhances..

Heres my top three decorating/art tips.. I do not claim to have all the answers but through trial and error these three have worked for me.

1- start with a  neutral pallet.. if your not sure white is good. (Color and texture is added with pillows, rugs, art, etc.)

2-Never start with a piece of art. Purchase art to compliment a space. Use art to tie a space together or bring an unexpected element. Sometimes this may introduce a new color that is not in your original plan. This is good! Just a touch.. 🙂

3. Purchase art that evokes an emotion/feeling. This could be a painting of a place, a favorite or memory. Abstracts are most certainly a conversation starter… they bring color as well as emotion.. Buy with your eyes..and your heart.

So interesting!!! I cant wait to hear what you think! Here is what I have learned..

Ps/every room needs a touch of black.. (sophistication)

Blue- tranquility, security, integrity, peace, loyalty, trust.

Turquoise- healing, protection, sophisticated

Green- fresh, new, healing, earth

Yellow- sunny, bright, energetic, happy, perky, joy.

Orange- courage, confidence, friendliness, success

Red- love, passion, energy, power, strength

Tan- dependable, flexible, conservative

Brown- friendly, conservative, longevity

Purple- royalty, luxury, ambition, wealth

Pink- healthy, happy, feminine, sweet, playful

Silver- glamorous, sleek, graceful

Gold- wisdom, prosperity, valuable

Gray- security, reliable, solid

White- goodness, purity, fresh, clean, innocence

Black- protection, elegance, classy, formal, sophistication

myblunest… why the change?

My sister gave maybe the best -word- i think I’ve ever been told.. I think the reason it resonated within me is I knew it was true.

She said this..”The only person standing in your way…is you!”  Ouch!  Maybe I’ll blame it on my enneagram type..

For the longest time I have wanted to offer more than art on my Instagram/ Blog etc. Fear has held me back, “What will people think?”  “They all are laughing at you…”  all. those.thoughts. Quite honestly I am a professional -nothing -but I have lots of other interest, art is just one of them. God has used art and continues to in my life. I’m not giving it up, I love painting! I’m just stepping over my insecurities and incorporating more things that I enjoy. Ive dabbled in it here and there but until I commit there will always be an easy way out.

Instagram has been somewhat of a struggle for me. Unless you have over a few thousand followers you are really considered “dead”. This is my second dance with Insta. I deleted my first account out of sheer obedience. Ill explain that another day.. After a period of time I felt the freedom to start all over, and I did.  I’ve learned a-lot about myself through this process and a lot about God. He doesn’t need my instagram account to sale my art. I actually sold more art than ever last year with only a whopping 450 followers! It is His, not mine.

Do I crave popularity? No. Popularity is deceitful. We can all go back in our minds to high school and understand that.

Do I want to be noticed?  No. I just love sharing what i love, find and enjoy. If it helps you..  then its a win for me!

What will this change look like? I have no idea! 😂 I am taking it day by day, baby steps.

Am I trying to make this my profession? A part of me says yes and the other says no. No is the fear. Honestly,  Things have shifted a little in my personal life(which at some point I pray I can share with you) which has challenged me go after ..IT.

So I say all this to say.. I would appreciate your support, but if it isn’t your thing, please don’t judge me. God knows my heart and He knows the whys and the secret reasons. I am ready to tackle this once school starts.. For now, i will enjoy these last few weeks with my crew.

What will I be sharing? Every. Thing. from new art and the process, shopping, recipes, Sunday lunches at home(because you can), to my favorite beauty products……Me on a budget.  And what I enjoy.. because at 45, it’s time.

Marriage Kit

Marriage Kit

Not all of these were my ideas.. but with every source I found none of them had scripture with them… I believe that’s an important element!!

Match-  For you are the perfect match

Genesis 2:18

Then the Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper who is just right for him.”

Candle- The future looks bright together! Jeremiah 29:11

For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.

Confetti- Don’t forget to CELEBRATE your marriage!

Genesis 2:24

This explains why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one.

Toothpick Pick out only the best in each other

Phil. 2:3-4

Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others

Eraser – forgiveness is key.. forgive quickly and often

Colossians 3:13-14

Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others. Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony.

Teabags- take time to relax and get away together.

Mark 6:32

So they left by boat for a quiet place, where they could be alone.

(personally love this one and the scripture) 🙂

Love (Hershey kisses)

Solomon 3:3

It was but a little that I passed from them, but I found him whom my soul loveth.

Button- watch your tongue, button your lips!

Proverbs 15:4

The soothing tongue is a tree of life,

but a perverse tongue crushes the spirit.

Rock- The KEY (above all else)to marriage success is to make Christ the center and foundation of the marriage. He has been and continues to be our safe place! Steady. Faithful. Strong.

I Cor. 3:10-11

“According to the grace of God which was given to me, as a wise master builder I have laid the foundation, and another builds on it. But let each one take heed how he builds on it. For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.”

Remember to:

Study God’s word together

#getspackled

Yes! I know that sounds strange but maybe it got your attention. What does it all mean? If you will hang tight I’ll try to explain it the best way I can.

A few years ago as I embarked on this art journey I found myself in search of all I would need to create “the” piece that would fit my visual ache.  I knew what I wanted it to look like but I didn’t know what I would need to achieve it.

I found myself searching and suddenly standing in the aisle at Lowe’s. I left that day with a bucket of vinyl spackling in hand without a clue as to how it would work, or how God was about to use it.

#Getspackled is my story.. my challenge to you. Sharing how God took the elements of art and transformed my heart, all while creating with you.   My hearts desire was to create, I had never intended to open my mouth and share. But God…

He began to strengthen my heart and doors began to open for me to be in front of people.. women. I had opportunities to share and as I did my heart grew. It grew in ways I did not expect. You see, I never saw myself worthy of speaking in front of a group. I always said there was a strange disconnect between what I was thinking and how it actually came out of my mouth. Most recently a very wise friend said, “ but when you are talking about Jesus and what He’s doing, it takes all the pressure off, you’re talking about him and not yourself.” Freedom

So this new year,  2019,  brings excitement in what’s to come. My first speaking/creating date is in February with over 100 women. I’m asking God to go before me and “do exceeding, abundantly above all I could ask or imagine..”

If you are interested in learning more or having me create with your group please email me kristihalldesigns@gmail com and let’s get spackled together!

Our Favorite Banana Bread

A95DF5D1-A396-466E-AF7B-1B4B9E393F77

3/4 cup (1 1/2 sticks/6 oz/170g) unsalted butter, softened
1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese, softened
2 cups granulated sugar
2 eggs, beaten
3 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 cups mashed bananas (about 4 medium bananas)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (180 C). Grease and flour two 8 x 4-inch loaf pans, or line bottoms of pans with parchment paper and spray paper with nonstick cooking spray. In a large bowl, beat butter and cream cheese at medium speed with an electric mixer until creamy. Gradually add sugar, beating until light and fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating just until combined.

Combine flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt; gradually add to butter mixture, beating at low speed just until blended. Stir in bananas, pecans and vanilla. Spoon batter into prepared loaf pans.

Bake in preheated oven for 60 to 70 minutes, or until a toothpick or wooden skewer inserted in the center comes out clean and sides pull away from the pan. If necessary, place aluminum foil over breads the last 15 minutes of baking to prevent over-browning.

Cool bread in pans on wire racks for 20 minutes. Remove from pans (and if you used parchment paper to line pans, remove paper) and cool breads

SECRET GLAZE THAT MAKES IT!

3/4c powdered sugar

just enough orange juice to make a glaze like consistency! I like to take a fork, poke holes and pour over! 🙈❤️But oh so good!!

Bring a tired bedroom back to life..

062C2DE3-045D-48ED-9711-2072307DC884Recently, I wanted to freshen up my bedroom without spending too much. Call it Spring Fever.. just needed a fresh look.

If you know me at all, then you know I love finding a good deal and I pride myself on the whole “look for less” thing.

first- Revere Pewter for walls! WIN

I wanted to keep my off white coverlet but change pillows and accessories. Changing pillows is HUGE…

I ended up finding three Euro pillows at Homegoods as well as two gray lumbar pillows. These were perfect and gave me the “clean” look I was going for.  The euro pillows were $24.99 each and the lumbars were 12.99. I added a gray throw at the foot of the bed to complete it.

Lamps came from Hobby Lobby 50% off and they are my very favorite! I love the metal base. Both lamps $80.. 🙌🏻

They went perfectly with a piece of art I was working on.. I wanted to keep it somewhat neutral and simple. When choosing art for a master bedroom I have three tips..

1-The bedroom is a retreat, a place for relaxation and the artwork should reflect that.

2-The best walls for art in the bedroom are directly over the bed or on the wall opposite the bed. Large scale pieces are best and should be hung at eye level. Look for abstract pieces with soothing colors or tones.

3- Remember its his room too.. fight the urge to be girly.. save that for your wardrobe. THIS is why I love and chose abstract art for our wall. Makes a statement without challenging his man card. 😉21DC048D-C3B9-4D80-AFB2-CC28C91323EC

Friday Favs and a few tips from my Mama

Three favorites this week and a talk with my Mama..I’ll start with her…❤️0787CE26-C55B-48BB-801E-F9F5BD636C327DBE94AB-05EE-40DC-A868-76D7F171D63A

I’m always asking my Mom and she’s mostly always right. She’s taught me everything I know.. from making homemade biscuits and cornbread to beauty secrets. I’m so happy she took the time to teach me so much!

She turns 70 this year and her skin is flawless.. So I asked her..

tip#1- When I asked her about wrinkles, skincare and products.. “I use Aquaphor around my eyes at night.”  (What? Ok I can do that). “ I wash my face with Aveeno skin brightening scrub.. and that’s it.” Seriously.. I was expecting a list.. Find it

tip#2 “I use a brightening bronzer on my cheekbones that I love, it’s from MAC and I use it everyday for a little glow” I actually bought this recently and I must say it’s now a favorite of mine too! 🙂  I will link it here

tip#3 – make up tip.. “LESS IS MORE..ALWAYS!  I think this applies to a lot of things….” AGREE.. she modeled this well and continues to. She also taught us some great rules about the mirror.. I don’t ever remember her gazing at herself a million times a day… she just got ready, re applied lipstick when needed and moved on. I love that about her!

There is so much more I could share from her..  I’m saving it for later! 🙂 stay tuned..

My three FAVORITES this week..

1- Favorite mascara.. Its a steal for 8.99. I feel like I have tried them all..  but this one HANDS DOWN .. find it here

2-HAIR..  ok so we do not all have the same hair, or texture but this magic not only works on my thicker, coarse hair but also on my sister who’s hair is more fine. A little goes a long way but it is my very favorite.. check your local salons. The good stuff

3- A great fitting pant.. you know when you find a good one you want to get all the colors? On sale this week..  RIGHT HERE I LOVE these pants. I have black, navy and yellow and they do not disappoint! A little stretch but not so much that they grow the more you wear them… that drives me crazy. These hit at such a cute place on the ankle which allows for flats or heels.. One more look..Here The navy and pink are perfect for Spring!

Serioulsy.. thanks for stopping by. I enjoy sharing.. 💗
